In the traditional computing model, infrastructure is like a lots of hardware device set.
Hardware solutions are physical, which means
they require space, staff, physical security, planning, and capital
expenditure.
Apart from the big amount of
advanced investment, traditional computing also requires a lengthy process
cycle that involves acquiring, provisioning, and maintaining on-premises
resources.
The other important point is resource
utilization. In traditional model, we are purchasing resources based on
calculation of maximum peak of our business needs.
Now your business might not be good in some
season or in the initial phase, it will be in slow starting phase so it will be
underutilized most of the time. In addition, if your business is running on
peak for some season then your resources will be always in over utilization and
again you need to purchase more resources. Then again, you have to spent time,
effort and money to maintain your business need. Therefore, you are always
between the low and maximum utilization of resources.
For example, if you wanted to develop a new
website then you would need to buy the hardware, rack and stack it, put it in a
data center, and then manage it or have someone else manage it. This
traditional IT way is expensive and time-consuming.
